Christmas Song Challenge Day 10

Christmas is all about spending time with family and friends.  That’s part of why so many find it to be their favorite (or most despised) holiday, Christmas brings back memories of years past spent with loved ones or, for some, loves lost or friends and family they no longer get along with.  We’ll focus on the more positive side today though, with songs that remind us of loved ones.

Day 10:  A Song That Reminds You of A Loved One

Josh:  New Found Glory – Nothing For Christmas

Not to be confused with the novelty song Nuttin’ For Christmas, Nothing For Christmas is an original song by Florida pop punk legends New Found Glory.  When I think of loved ones my wife is the first to come to mind and this is the first song I think of.  A nice acoustic tune that tugs at heart strings with lines like ‘A hope in your eyes that I can’t put a price on’, ‘But the feeling is right and nothing can go wrong/ The fog on the window, radio sings us songs’ and a chorus ‘Christmas is coming/ so don’t buy me anything/ I got what I wanted/ I got what I needed/ it’s you.’  Nothing could translate to Christmas with my classy lady more.

Joey’s Pick: Relient K – Merry Christmas, Here’s To Many More

When I met my wife she was already into Relient K, so it was fitting we played one of their songs at our wedding, but for Christmas, it’s this song, a touching ode to being with the people you care about. (“Look at me now/it’s finally Christmas and I’m home/Head indoors to get out of this weather/And I don’t know how/but the closest friends I’ve ever known are all inside/Singing together/they’re singing, Merry Christmas, here’s to many more”)

Dustin’s Pick: Trans-Siberian Orchestra – Wizards in Winter

The only acceptable Christmas song is Wizards in Winter by TSO.  Also we used to listen to TSO while driving home from Christmas shopping, so that counts as a fond family memory.  And I have a cousin who does drone photography.
